Mrs. Shannon Wilson as the new Principal

Dear LTA Community,

The Liberty Tree Academy Board of Directors is pleased to announce Mrs. Shannon Wilson as the new Principal! The decision was made by unanimous Board vote at a special meeting held Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2020.

Mrs. Wilson has worked in education for nearly 20 years in a variety of roles and has been integral in the excellence of LTA from its inception.

Philip Kilgore, BCSI founding director:
“…For weeks, Mrs. Wilson simultaneously fulfilled the duties of Principal, Assistant Principal, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction, duties normally carried out by three people. At the time, I was the Director of the Barney Charter School Initiative, and I heard reports from my staff of her highly effective conduct under difficult circumstances… I judged that LTA was fortunate to have someone so capable to stand in the gap and maintain continuity of operations.”

This academic school year, Mrs. Wilson was once again called upon by the Board of Directors to rise to the occasion in the head leadership role.

Mrs. Wilson is excited to continue to build the team at LTA and is committed to ensuring LTA’s staff has the needed resources and professional development needed to continue to perform at the highest of levels. Wilson said: “While turnover is always difficult in any organization, it is to be expected in a new school and especially with the demands of our unique school mission.” Wilson added, “I have been busy interviewing exceptional candidates who are thrilled about an opportunity to work with our team at LTA! It is exciting to see how the news of our academic success and excellent school decorum attracts wonderful staff prospects who are excited for an opportunity to join the mission to provide the best Traditional American Education available!”

Founding Principal of James Irwin Charter Elementary School, Mrs. Berg:
“It is no surprise to me that LTA students were able to demonstrate high levels of achievement even in the first year of operation – no small feat.” Berg continues, “Mrs. Wilson has amply demonstrated the essential qualities for providing school leadership as well as giving strong evidence of her own commitment to continue building her professional acumen.”

Atlanta Classical Academy School Founder and Executive Director, Matthew Kirby:
“When I visited with LTA last spring, I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Wilson. Her commitment to Liberty Tree Academy and its mission was instantly apparent. Her humble resolve, grasp of the complex issues, and tireless work ethic stood out immediately.”

Mrs. Wilson has a true love for LTA’s students and families. She coached our lower and upper school students in basketball this past winter. Mrs. Wilson said: “One of the great things about our unique school is the family atmosphere. We care about one another, we get to know one another outside of the classroom and engaging in the lives of our students as they demonstrate the character we teach, is a source of great joy that we can all celebrate!”

The Board of Directors are excited for the future of LTA and fully expects that Mrs. Wilson’s extensive experience and demonstrated leadership will continue to enrich and enhance the quality of education at LTA!

Join with us in celebrating our newly named principal: Mrs. Wilson!
