Life in Upper School
At the Upper School, students enjoy a wide range of classes led by subject matter experts, all taught with a clear and purposeful approach. Our teachers employ the Socratic Method, using thought-provoking questions to guide instruction. This method fosters cooperative, argumentative dialogue, helping students uncover key ideas and solutions through active participation. By maintaining dynamic and engaging conversations, our teachers create an environment of excitement and continuous learning, keeping everyone focused and motivated.
Much like in Lower School, our teachers incorporate frequent praises throughout the day and within each lesson. They commend students for their achievements and perseverance, such as tackling challenging math problems. This practice of recognizing virtues helps students develop the wisdom to make sound decisions as they mature into young adults.
Upper School students participate in daily physical education (PE) classes, recognizing the importance of physical activity for maintaining focus in the classroom. Additionally, our students enthusiastically engage in various after-school activities, including band, choir, and a range of sports offered throughout the year.
During lunch, students can enjoy their meals in the cafeteria or at outdoor lunch tables, fostering social interactions with peers and teachers. Lunchtimes are often spent deepening relationships and engaging in meaningful discussions with teachers.
The last period of the day is dedicated to Student Advisement, providing students with the opportunity to receive targeted assistance in specific subjects and additional support before heading home to complete their work. This period also accommodates students who participate in sports at different schools, allowing them to leave early without missing essential class instruction.
We pride ourselves on our strong, familial culture and commitment to becoming lifelong learners of what is true, good, and beautiful. We are proud to be the War Eagles!
